EVOLUTION OF LIFE: FROM WHOLISM TO REDUCTIONISM

 

This is the story how modern mankind lost, rather tampered with, their long innate and organic characteristics only to suddenly end up with certain degenerate, mechanical characteristics in modern era, when they suddenly changed their mode of existence — from non-dualism to dualism.  

 

 

Man and nature existed in a united, holistic state for millions of years. Here we envision a world where we live in communion with the Earth, creating perfect harmony, health, and happiness. From the smallest nano-particle to the largest galactic formation, a web of electrical circuitry connects and unifies all of Nature, organizing galaxies, energizing stars, giving birth to planets and, on our own world, controlling weather and animating biological organisms. There are no isolated islands in an electric universe. As an organic species of Nature, man is allowed to live on and be a part of Earth. Humans are like cells functioning within a body of the Earth. As long as humans (the cells) live in a healthy manner we will live peacefully in correlation with Earth.

Mankind practiced this Nature’s wholesome way of life – united state of existence – for millions of years, till as recently as up to the start of modern civilization, when suddenly everything sharply changed, thanks to shortcut methodologies like the analytical science of reductionism and middlemanism taking over the central role of the socialization process, basicaly since the 16th century. Here the purpose of knowledge is violated when modern science, in a mindless effort of transforming Nature without a thought for the consequences, destroys the innate integrity of Nature and thereby robs it of its regenerative capacity. As humans advance and create technology that intervenes with and begins to decay our environment we have become unhealthy cells within a functioning body.

 

To separate is to die a little. Call it reductionism, dualism, atomism, our world has suddenly come to acquire a narrow, specialized outlook in place of the millions of years long holistic, comprehensive and integrated outlook. Milling or splitting up of the wholistic NATURAL PAIRS (unity-in-duality mode of evolution) in Nature result in the linear development of isolated state of existence of broken pairs, as singles (existing in duality), leading to their premature decay and degeneration. Here modern reductionist science is working as the ‘particle accelerator’ – smasher – of Nature. In our day, modern science is the MILL and scientists are the MILLERS; and they go on MILLING everything wholistic across-the-board in Nature, ever since Industrial Revolution

Massive degeneration brought about by the massive mechanization, massive split up of most of the wholistic matters in the world, including mankind, resulted in the genetic tampering that greatly reduced the quality and changed the properties of everything including man, society and planet.

United we stand, we live; divided or separated we fall, we decay and we degenerate. Here we are excommunicating Nature, and now Nature is all set to excommunicate us. The modern story of human evolution is more about its development from the long Unity-In-Duality mode of regenerative existence of natural wholism to the modern Dualist Mode of degenerative existence of mechanical reductionism. Here we will see how the reductionist science generates the problems in wholesale and solves some of these problems in retail. First let us see the long Unity-In-Duality mode of regenerative existence.

 

Unity-In-Duality

Non-dualism is a concept rapidly gaining footing in the psycho-spiritual community and it refers to the mutual reciprocity of apparently opposing forces as they interact. The classic representation of this philosophical concept can be found in the Chinese Yin and Yang symbol.

The ancient Chinese believed that we could best understand the processes of nature, and human nature, as a dynamic balance between apparent opposites: the positive and negative poles of magnetism; the male and female principles of procreation; the cycles of day and night; summer and winter; the conflicting aspects of our personality; and so on. They visualized this dynamic in the form of the yin-yang glyph, or “The Supreme Ultimate.”

The Chinese saw nature working according to natural laws that tended to maintain and restore harmony, and did not, as most Western thinkers of the last two hundred years believed, see the forces of the universe as constantly in a battle with one another. Mainstream psychology and medicine, it has often been argued, are heirs to the Western philosophical traditions of Cartesian dualism, scientific reductionism, Social Darwinism, dialectical materialism, and so on.

‘Non-Duality’ or unity-in-duality is actually a translation of the Sanskrit word ‘Advaita’, which simply means ‘not two’ and points to the essential oneness (wholeness, completeness, unity) of life, a wholeness which exists here and now, prior to any apparent separation. It’s a word that points to an intimacy, a love beyond words, right at the heart of present moment experience. It’s a word that points us back Home. And despite the compelling appearance of separation and diversity there is only one universal essence, one reality. Oneness is all there is – and we are included.

What we are really trying to do when we say ‘non-duality’ is point to life before the appearance of concepts and labels; before thought creates a world of things: table, chair, hand, foot, fear, me, you, past, future. What is life before thought? Can we even talk about that? Is it possible to capture non-duality into words?

Man       = Male

Woman = Female

Human  = Male-Female – produces new idea, concept and new offspring

Likewise:

Electricity = Female 

Magnetics = Male 

Electromagnetics = Male-Female Unity

The wholeness or completeness that you are looking for is not be found in the future. The wholeness that everyone is looking for is actually already here within this present experience, within this present moment. The wholeness that you’re looking for is what you are. It sounds like a total paradox when you try to understand it with thought and it really goes against everything that you are conditioned to believe. It’s not about understanding this with the mind, with thought – it’s about really seeing this for yourself, in your own experience. In a way, this offers nothing to the seeker – it is the experience of being a seeker in the first place, that’s the illusion. And it’s that illusion that this message exposes.

If we ultimately cannot understand this message intellectually is there anything that can be done?

No one can give this to you or teach it to you. You need to see it for yourself within your own present experience because that’s all there is. You won’t see it in someone else’s experience. It’s not a second-hand thing. It’s about this experience, right now. Jiddu Krishnamurti wrote: “No man from outside can make you free… No one holds the Key to the Kingdom of Happiness. No one has the authority to hold that key. That key is your own self, and in the development and the purification and in the incorruptibility of that self alone is the Kingdom of Eternity…”

It’s not something to find in the future. The wholeness you look for is already appearing as everything that’s happening now: as these thoughts, sensations, feelings, sounds, smells. Perhaps this is the wholeness we’ve been seeking. And perhaps wholeness doesn’t look, sound, smell, feel or taste anything like your idea of wholeness – your concept of wholeness! Everyone is looking for their concepts of wholeness (or enlightenment, freedom, love) but true wholeness is not a concept. It’s what is already here prior to concepts. So again, here’s the paradox: perhaps there is only ever wholeness, and within that wholeness we go out into time and space and look for wholeness! Within Home, we’re all looking for Home. Everyone is trying to come Home, but they are already Home. They are what they seek, and do not realise it.

So, the message of non-duality points to this ever-present completeness – in the midst of present experience. In this context, let us examine what is incompleteness or the opposite of non-duality which is none other than DUALISM or split in non-duality.

Dualism

Can life be reduced to nothing more than an interesting arrangement of atoms and molecules? The prevailing view of science today, sometimes known as reductionism is that life results from the combination of non-living molecules, or the totality of any particular wholitic matter/entity is the totality of the sum of its parts.

Modern mechanized world is a dualistic universe that exists in a state of dualism or reductionism. For millions of years, all matters on Earth – organic and inorganic, living or non-living – existed in a  wholistic state, that is, in a state of dual unity. Here things fall into one of two poles like day and night, male and female, space and time, matter and energy, reason and passion, good and evil, positive and negative, pleasure and pain, success and failure, flower and thorn, fruit and seeds, solution and problem, and so forth. Even light has a dualistic characteristic and that is why they call it “electromagnetic radiation”. The dual poles of light are the electro and the magnetic. The two elements make it when they come together as the two opposites. So there is the duality and there is the unity.

Men and women are not equal but completely different.  Male-and-Female is duality in unity. Only two contrasting fundamentals, as different as hydrogen and oxygen can produce water, or two contrasting fundamentals, as different as man and woman can produce a new human. The combining of whole hydrogen atoms in the universe cannot produce even a drop of water, nor can it by combining the whole of oxygen atoms in the universe.
